#26640 - Covered Hopper 1960
Built by American Car & Foundry, this two compartment, 70 ton capacity steel covered hopper was used to carry bulk items which needed protection from the elements. Cement, grain, dry chemicals, and plastic pellets are examples of typical cargo. Number 26640 was last used by the Diamond Shamrock Company to haul potassium carbonate and was donated in 1993 by ACF Industries.
Did You Realize: The Stanley/Locomobile was the nation's most popular car from 1900 through 1904 but by 1905 had fallen drastically to several models of internal combustion cars.
