St. Louis Chapter's San Antonio Weekend 2011
The St. Louis Chapter ran a successful private car trip from St. Louis to San Antonio, Texas on October 26 - November 1, 2011.

Though it was a rainy St. Louis boarding and departure the welcome aboard party kept everyone in good spirits. There was a lot of good food brought by the passengers but the feature was Donna Kraatz's "To Texas by Train" cake.

The clouds and rain followed us all the way to San Antonio but after that weather was sunny and beautiful for the rest of the trip. The 15 passengers enjoyed three full days exploring, tasting and experiencing all that San Antonio has to offer.

An added highlight was listening on the radio to the Cardinals win Game Six of the World Series after arriving in town Thursday evening. And of course watching them win Game Seven at Aldaco's Mexican restaurant in the Sunset Station complex on Friday evening was even better.

Thanks go to Tony Marchiando and Meteor Rail for another great trip on the ex-Frisco sleeping car Cimarron River. Also many thanks to the Amtrak personnel in San Antonio for getting Cimarron River pointed the right direction (vestibule to the rear) for the return trip to St. Louis.

The trip was originally scheduled for late April but was cancelled due to the results of severe weather in Arkansas.

We plan on running the trip again in April 2012, possibly during Fiesta San Antonio. Hope you can join us!
